Today's video is Desire by Years & Years. They are a British/Australian group made up of 3 members, lead singer and keyboardist Olly Alexander, bass player Mikey Goldsworthy and synth player Emre Turkmen. Drummer Dylan Bells performs live with them. Their music is mainly electropop with some R'n'B and house.
Years & Years got together in 2010. They started out with 5 members but the other members Noel Leeman and Oliver Subria left and they are now a trio. They released their debut single I Wish I Knew in summer 2012 and the following year signed to Kitsune Records and brought out their second single Traps. To date the band have released 5 EPs- Traps (2012), Real, Take Shelter, Desire Remixes (all released in 2014) and Y & Y EP (2015) and 5 more singles, including Real, Desire and King which was No 1 on the UK Singles Chart this year. Their next single Shine will be released on 5th July and their debut album Communion is due out on 10th July.
Years & Years are playing quite a few festivals and I just saw that they're going to be at the Wild Life Festival in my area this Sunday. It's listed as Brighton but it's actually in the Shoreham/Lancing area, at Shoreham Airport! (They also call it Brighton City Airport). I think Disclosure and Rudimental are the creators of the festival.
Desire was Years & Years' 5th single and was released last November. I find the video a bit strange, lol. But I like the song; it's similar to King which I like as well. :)
Update 12/3/16: They appear to have made the original video for this private now that the new version of Desire with Tove Lo has been released. I think that's a shame because although I found the original video a bit strange, I actually prefer it to the new one! And they're different anyway because the original one doesn't have Tove Lo's vocals. It seems a bit strange that they've taken it off. Anyway here's a lyric video instead. :)
Update 22/6/21: I see that the video is now available again! Hard to say how long for because I hadn't checked for a while.
