Weekly Music Video

Today's music video is Call Me by My Name by American singer John Lindahl . It's a song from his latest album John Lindahl's CULT CLASSIQUÉ" , which is a concept album . Cult Classiqué is also a film and miniseries (all released independently) and tells the story of JOHNNY, whose character is inspired by Edward Scissorhands from the classic 1990 film , the late Michael Jackson and Michael Myers from the cult 80s Halloween movies .  The project is a homage to  music from the 1980s, music videos from that era and 80s indie horror. It shows another, darker side of John aka JOHHNY. The story takes place on Friday 13th 1989 and the first part of the miniseries was released on Friday 13th October last year. Call Me by My Name is an 80s style pop song with relaxed vibes, where JOHNNY meets a girl who is alone and upset. He offers to her escort her home, telling her not to be afraid, but she would be wise to be on her guard! This is an audio. Update 23/10/24: The video and ot

Dance in Public Videos- One Take Edition!

Sorry the 2nd post is later this week, I didn't feel up to writing much yesterday. :) Time for the first dance video post of the year! Today I'm sharing some Dance in Public videos (cover dances performed in public places), mostly K-pop in Public . :) The theme of this post is "one take" videos, meaning that they were filmed all in one go.  [KPOP IN PUBLIC RUSSIA ONE TAKE] KARD- CAKE- Patata Party  First up is a cover of CAKE by K-pop co-ed/mixed gender group KARD , which is a song from their 6th mini album ICKY, released last May. The title track also came out in May but I don't think CAKE  was an official single. The song and choreography shocked fans last year with the sexy content ! The dance is performed by Patata Party, a cover dance team from Moscow, Russia. The video was uploaded in November and features Olya as Somin, Maslina as Jiwoo, Lesha as BM and Songe as J.Seph.   Watch the official dance practice video for CAKE here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v

Weekly Music Video

Today's video is Hands Tied by Majid Jordan . The Canadian duo (made up of Majid Al Maskati and Jordan Ullman) released their 4th studio album Good People/ Afterhours in November. It consists of two discs, the first disc features new songs and the second contains songs from their debut EP Afterhours. The EP was released on Soundcloud back in 2012, under the name Good People. It's been quite a while I've featured Majid Jordan on the blog, the last time was in 2018! It's good to listen to their music again :)  Hands Tied is the 2nd single from the album, coming after Waiting for You featuring Caribbean/Dutch singer Naomi Sharon , (the first female artist to be signed to OVO Sound , the record label co-owned by Canadian rapper and singer Drake ) and before Violet. I like the chilled vibe of the song. Hands Tied was released in October. The video premiered on YouTube in November.    Watch the lyric video for Violet (the latest single) here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=

New Music for 2024

It's a new year, so here's some brand-new music for 2024! Since 2017 I've been writing posts sharing new music releases for the new year (it was called New Music Releases in 2017 and then a year later it was titled New Music for 2018 ).  You can see 2023's at the links below:  New Music for 2023- Bollywood/Asian  https://starsparklex.blogspot.com/2023/01/new-music-for-2023-bollywoodasian.html New Music for 2023- Various:  https://starsparklex.blogspot.com/2023/01/new-music-for-2023-various.html   And now here are some new releases, mainly in the Western pop/R'n'B genre. :)   Jennifer Lopez- Can't Get Enough Jennifer Lopez (one of my favourite singers) has just released the new song Can't Get Enough. It's her first single in two years (following 2022's Marry Me with Columbian singer Maluma , from the film of the same name )  and will be the lead single from her upcoming album This Is Me...Now. This Is Me...Now is J.Lo's 9th studio album, her

Today's video is Lolita Bonita by Japanese singer MIREI (full name Touyama Mirei, or Mirei Touyama). It's about Western stereotypes of young Japanese girls or Asian females in general), which stem from the cute submissive girl who is portrayed in a romantic or sexualised ways in manga and anime . This particular genre is known as "lolicon" (short for "Lolita complex). It originated in Japan in the 70s and takes its name from the 1955 book Lolita by Russian born American author Vladimir Nabokov .  Lolita Bonita has mostly English lyrics, with a few Japanese, Korean and Spanish words. "Bonita" is Spanish for "pretty" (and I thought it also translated as "nice", but "lindo/a" is closer to nice ), so the song refers to a pretty Lolita type girl from men's fantasies.  "Oppa" is a Korean term for "older brother" used by females, not just for actual brothers but friends/boyfriends too. 88rising Artists- Part 2

Sorry the 2nd post is later this week, I didn't manage to get it finished yesterday. :) Almost a year ago I wrote a post called 88rising Artists- Part 1, featuring music from artists signed to the American mess media company/record label 88rising . You can read it here:  https://starsparklex.blogspot.com/2023/01/88rising-artists-part-1.html I had intended to follow up with Part 2 later in 2023 but never got round to it. I have several posts that I ended up splitting into two parts but haven't done the second part for yet. So I'm planning to complete those this year, starting with this one- 88rising Artists- Part 2! :) Joji Japanese singer-songwriter, rapper and  record producer Joji (real name George Kusunoki Miller) is one of the main artists on the record label. He started out as an internet personality and comedian before moving into music in 2017, under 88rising. He released his debut EP In Tongues (the first under the name Joji) in November 2017 and his debut studio a

This week's video is Lonely by German born Kosovar/Kosovo Albanian singer Butrint Imeri and Kosovar singer Era Istrefi . I believe this is the first time the two artists have worked together. Lonely is a pop/R'n'B song  with dance elements, sung in Albanian with the odd English word (such as the title!). It was released in November.   Also check out the video for Butrint's latest single Gaboi, with Stealth and Vinz (released last month: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XyozESjhh8E And here is Era's previous release Ta Du (from last June):  https://starsparklex.blogspot.com/2023/07/weekly-music-video_19.html   Want more Kosovar/Albanian music? Favourite Songs of 2023

At the end of 2022 I wrote a post sharing my favourite songs from that year. You can see it here: https://starsparklex.blogspot.com/2022/12/favourite-songs-of-2022.html I thought it would be cool to do one for 2023 as well, so here are my fave songs from last year. :)   XG- SHOOTING STAR In January Japanese girl group XG released their 3rd single SHOOTING STAR, along with the track LEFT/RIGHT. I actually first featured XG on the blog, their debut single Tippy Toes was one of my favourite songs of 2022 and I included it in that post. SHOOTING STAR, an R'n'B/hip hop style song, was my first fave song of the year. I also really liked PUPPET SHOW (see below). Watch the music video here: https://starsparklex.blogspot.com/2023/02/weekly-music-video.html   Denise Julia- bum 2 me  Filipina R'n'B singer Denise Julia's single bum 2 me was my favourite song of the summer. Weekly Music Video

Hope everyone had a good New Year! Here is the first post (and Weekly Music Video) of 2024. :) This week's video is Leke Prabhu Ka Naam Song from the recent Bollywood film Tiger 3 . The movie is the sequel to 2012's Ek Tha Tiger and 2017's Tiger Zinda Hai , and the 5th instalment overall in the YRF Spy Universe . The other films are War (2019) and Pathaan (2023). I haven't seen any of these to date (just seen the music videos) but they seem worth a watch. Tiger 3, which was released during Diwali in November, continues the story of Indian and Pakistani intelligence agents Tiger and Zoya (played by Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif ). They were revealed to now be married with a son in Tiger Zinda Hai.  The couple find themselves on opposite sides when Zoya is forced into an assassination attempt by ISI agent Aatish Reham (played by one of my favourite Bollywood actors Emraan Hashmi !).They must pull together against Aatish to save both their country and family. The Leke Prab
