Weekly Music Video

Today's music video is for the single Jack Sparrow by American comedy/music group The Lonely Island and featuring American singer Michael Bolton. The Lonely Island consists of Andy Samberg, Jorma Taccone and Akiva Schaffer, who met in junior high school and began making videos in September 2000. They worked on American comedy sketch show Saturday Night Live (Andy was a cast member and Jorma and Akiva were writers). The Lonely Island have released 3 albums, Incredibad (2009), Turtleneck & Chain (2011) and The Wack Album (2013). Their music is a parody of hip hop/R'n'B and tends to have sexual and/or silly themes, lol.  Some of their most well known songs are J*zz in My Pants, I Just Had Sex and YOLO. The band have worked with quite a few celebrities, including Akon on I Just Had Sex,  Justin Timberlake on D*ck in a Box and Lady Gaga on 3-Way. Jack Sparrow was released in 2011 and is meant to be a song about how skilled the group members are with picking up wome

The Defamation of Strickland Banks

It's time for another post in The Defamation of Strickland Banks series. Here's the next video for the song The Recluse. It's the 7th song on the album and was the 4 single, released in October 2010. Now Strickland has become a recluse, just staying in his cell all the time and refusing to come out because the other prisoners want to beat him up. The video features flashbacks of his life before prison. Check out the rest of the videos here: Love Goes Down (song)/Writing's On The Wall Stay Too Long   Love Goes Down  She Said Welcome To Hell Hard Times

Here's another one of my favourite Delilah songs, Inside My Love. It was the 4th single from her album From The Roots Up and was released in July 2012. Inside My Love was originally sung by American singer Minnie Riperton in 1975. I really like this song. :) The video is a bit weird though, lol. Watch Minnie singing her version here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VFMQWE92g8A

Top 10 X-Files Episodes

The X-Files was an American sci-fi TV show that ran from 1993 to 2002. It was about FBI agents Fox Mulder (played by David Duchovny ) and Dana Scully ( Gillian Anderson ), who were assigned to The X-Files, the strange/unexplained crime cases. When the series started, Scully was brought in to keep an eye on Mulder because his "out there" theories and off beat ways of doing things made the government nervous. However, although she remained a sceptic, Scully became a bit more open minded as time went on and she and Mulder developed a close relationship. There were also two films, The X-Files (1998) and The X-Files: I Want To Believe (2008). The X-Files was essentially all about government conspiracies and aliens, along with the running storyline of what happened to Mulder's sister Samantha. She disappeared when Mulder was 12 and he believed her to have been abducted by aliens. This affected him all his life and contributed to his beliefs and work. Although I watched the s

Weekly Music Video

The video this week is for the song Leva Boy by Mozambican singer Lizha James and featuring Angolan singer Pérola . Lizha (real name Elisa Lisete James Humbane) is one of the most popular singers in Mozambique and both she and Perola sing in Portuguese.  I think Perola's music is kizomba and Lizha's is also classified as kizomba on her last.fm profile but according to Wikipedia her music style also includes Marrabenta and Dzukuta Pandza. Lizha and Perola teamed up on Leva Boy in 2012. According to a comment on YouTube the song is about ending a relationship because of domestic violence, how it's better to be free even if you lose your material possessions. If anyone has a translation of the lyrics please let me know. :) For more on Lizha visit her official Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/iamlizhajames It's in Portguese but you can usually translate to English on FB.

New Jennifer Lopez video

Jennifer Lopez has a video  for her new single Same Girl, which is out now to buy on iTunes. I like the song, it kind of reminds me of Jenny From The Block, with the message being that Jennifer's still the same girl from the Bronx where she grew up. (But it's also about people trying to bring her down). There's no news of an album yet but hopefully she will be releasing a new one soon!

Weekly Music Video

Today's video is from the Bollywood film Awarapan (2007). The film is based on Korean movie A Bittersweet Life and is about hit man Shivam (played by Emraan Hashmi ), who works for the gangster who raised him, Bharat Malik ( Ashutosh Rana ). One day Shivam's world changes when he meets Aaliyah ( Shriya Saran ), a devout Muslim girl. He falls in love with her and the couple plan to marry but Aaliyah's father objects because Shivam is a criminal. This leads to a fight and Aaliyah's dad accidentally kills her. Heartbroken, Shivam moves to Hong Kong to spy on Reema ( Mrinalini Sharma ), a Pakistani woman who is Bharat's mistress. Bharat suspects her of having a lover. The song is Mahiya (sung by Suzanne D'Mello in the film) and in the video Shivam is following Reema and her friends around Hong Kong. There's also another version by British Pakistani singer Annie . She originally released her version (as Mahia) and then it was used for Awarapan. Annie
