In June I wrote a post about the 20th anniversary of my fave singer Mariah Carey's The Emancipation of Mimi album. It ended up being a long post, so I split it into two parts! You can see Part 1: https://starsparklex.blogspot.com/2025/06/20th-anniversary-of-mariahs.html
I also did another post featuring a special live performance that Mariah did to celebrate the anniversary: https://starsparklex.blogspot.com/2025/06/mariah-carey-20th-teom-anniversary-live.html
Now here is Part 2! Today I'm featuring some songs from The Emancipation of Mimi: Ultra Platinum Edition and the new 20th anniversary edition. :)
Don't Forget About Us
Don't Forget About Us was the lead (and only) single from the re-released version of the album (the Ultra Platinum Edition) and came out in October 2005, ahead of the re-release in November 2005. It's one of my favourite songs from TEOM. :)
Don't Forget About Us is about a past relationship, although Mariah has stated that the true meaning can be interpreted by the listener. It was successful as a single, becoming MC's 17th No. 1 on the US Billboard Hot 100, a record which tied with Elvis Presley for most No. 1 singles by a solo artist.
At the time there were several remixes of the song, the main one was by Mariah's longtime friend and collaborator American record producer and rapper Jermaine Dupri. It's called the Mr Dupri mix and features rappers Juelz Santana, Krayzie Bone and Layzie Bone (the latter two being members of hip hop group Bone Thugs-n-Harmony). Other remixes include dance mixes and the Desert Storm Remix by DJ Clue.
For the Deluxe Anniversary Edition (see Part 1) a new remix was produced by Haitian Canadian producer and rapper KAYTRANADA.
The music video for Don't Forget About Us was filmed by American director Paul Hunter, who also directed the video for Mariah's hit 1997 single Honey (another of my fave MC songs!). In one part, Mariah re-enacted the pool scene from the 1962 film Something's Got to Give, Marilyn Monroe's last film before her death.
I featured it in my And More Mariah Songs! post back in 2013. Visit the post to watch it (scroll down): https://starsparklex.blogspot.com/2013/09/and-more-mariah-songs.html
Don't Forget About Us (KAYTRANADA Remix)
For the 20th anniversary edition, there was a new remix of Don't Forget About Us by KAYTRANADA. It was released as a single in April (ahead of the anniversary album edition in May).
This is the official music video.
So Lonely (One and Only Pt II)
One and Only featuring American rapper Twista was a track on the original album. The pair also recorded a sequel to the song, So Lonely (Only and Pt II). The second song appeared on both Twista's album The Day After (released in October 2005) and The Emancipation of Mimi: Ultra Platinum Edition. However, the version on Twista's album is slightly different, with a shorter intro and less vocals from Mariah, also known as So Lonely (One and Only Part 3).
The So Lonely version on Twista's album was released as a single in January 2006. While I like both One and Only and So Lonely, I like the sequel a bit more. :)
I featured So Lonely in my Top 10 Mariah Carey Songs post back in 2013 (No. 6 on the list): https://starsparklex.blogspot.com/2013/01/top-10-mariah-carey-songs.html
That was an unofficial upload but here is the official one:

Makin' It Last All Night (What It Do) feat. Jermaine Dupri
This is one of my favourite songs from the re-release. It was a bonus track on the Ultra Platinum Edition.
I like the pairing of Mariah and Jermaine. He also features on Get Your Number (see Part 1) and another of my fave collabs of theirs is the single Sweetheart (released in 1998).
I included Makin' Last All Night in my Some Mariah Carey + J.Lo Songs post in 2015. (I know that Mariah and Jennifer Lopez- who also had a 20th album anniversary this year, with Rebirth- have never been on friendly terms but I like both of them!)

That wasn't the official upload but here is a new visualiser, released for the anniversary:
Stay The Night
Finally, here is Stay The Night, another of my favourites. It's a slower song with a powerful chorus. I included it in my And More Mariah Songs! post in 2013: https://starsparklex.blogspot.com/2013/09/and-more-mariah-songs.html
Like some of the other songs I've previously featured, it wasn't an official upload. However, MC has a new visualiser for this one as well:

P.S. Mariah has a new album coming out next month called Here For It All.It will be her 16th studio album (nicknamed MC16) and is due out on 16th September. I'm looking forward to that! :) To date, two singles have been released- Type Dangerous in June and Sugar Sweet featuring Shenseea and Kehlani last month (see below for links).
