Weekly Music Video

 Today's video is 12 to 12 by American singer sombr. His real name is Shane Michael Boose and his stage name (which is written in lowercase) is based on his initials. He also chose it because of how he was feeling at the time. ("Somber"- or "sombre as we spell it in the UK- means to feel down/sad and serious.)

sombr released his debut single nothing left to say (also written in lowercase) in October 2021 and 4 other singles followed, including through it all and caroline. Then in 2023, aged 17, he signed to Warner Records and released the single weak. He also has his own independent record label SMB.  In September that year, he brought out his debut EP in another life.

Two more singles from the EP were released, silhouette and my house is warm, plus several more non-album singles. 

However, it was this year that sombr's career really took off, when his singles back to friends and undressed (released in December 2024 and March 2025 respectively) went viral on TikTok.  He also featured on the remix of All I Ever Asked by British singer Rachel Chinouriri in February.

back to friends is the lead single from sombr's upcoming debut studio album I Barely Know Her, which is due for release on 22nd August. To date, two more singles from the album have been released- we never dated and 12 to 12. His music has been described as rock 'n' roll, indie pop and alt pop.

12 to 12 is his latest single and came out in July. It was written by sombr and is a new wave and synth-pop song. The music video features American social media star turned singer Addison Rae.

New Unexpected

We're finally getting the new season of the reality TV series Unexpected in the UK! Season 3 was shown in the US last summer , and I wondered when we'd get it here. I don't have any online streaming services so thought I'd just watch clips on YouTube, lol. However it's now starting here in early March. Similar to the popular MTV franchise Teen Mom , Unexpected focuses on teen parents. South Indian Videos

I've written several Bollywood posts this year but I don't feature South Indian music/films as much. 25th Anniversary of Mariah Carey's Butterfly Album

My favourite singer Mariah Carey recently released a 25th anniversary edition of her 6th studio album Butterfly. The original album was released on 16th September 1997 and featured songs such as her hit single Honey, The Roof and My All. It was actually the first album I ever bought (on cassette tape, lol) and I still consider it one of my fave MC albums. :) Butterfly was the first album that Mariah had more control over and it is R'n'B, rather than the pop (and later pop/R'n'B) of her previous releases. It also has pop and hip hop influences.
