New Justin Bieber Album

Canadian singer Justin Bieber released a surprise new album last month. It's called SWAG and is his 7th studio album. News of SWAG only emerged just before its release on 11th July. I think I came across songs from it on YouTube and realised they were from a new album. It had been quite a while since Justin had brought out new music, so I was pleased to find out about it! :)

SWAG follows Justin's 6th album Justice and 2nd EP Freedom (both released in 2021). To date it has reached No. 1 in several countries, including Canada, Australia, Norway and Portugal and charted within the Top 10 in more, including the UK, US, Australia, Spain and Japan.

The release of SWAG comes after Justin has been through a difficult time in his personal life. There have been rumours of problems in his marriage with wife American model and businesswoman Hailey Bieber (daughter of actor Stephen Baldwin, one of the Baldwin brothers) and worries over Justin behaving erratically as well as issues with the paparazzi.

However, he claims to have regained his "swag" with the new album, which features photos of himself, Hailey and their son Jack Blues (who just turned 1 on 22nd August).

SWAG is a pop and R'n'B album, consisting of 21 tracks. It was co-written and produced by Justin. So far, 3 singles have been released- DAISIES, YUKON and FIRST PLACE. (Like the album title, all the tracks are written in capitals.) My favourite songs include TOO LONG, ALL I CAN TAKE, WALKING AWAY and SWAG.

Here are the singles, plus my faves. :)

Update 8/9/25: Justin just released another album called SWAG II. See below for details. :)

DAISIES

This was the lead single from the album and was released on 14th July (to Italian radio specifically but has also been released elsewhere), two days after SWAG came out. It was successful, charting in the Top 5 in quite a few countries, including New Zealand and here in the UK.

DAISIES is described as an alternative pop song and was inspired by Justin's relationship with his wife Hailey.

There's only an audio so far, but I'll update this post if there's a music video in future.

YUKON

YUKON was the 2nd single and came out on 22nd July. It's a pop song where Justin sings in a high pitch (it confused me a bit because I thought it didn't sound like him! lol). The track also features ad-libs from American rapper 2 Chainz

The black and white music video features family scenes of Justin, Hailey and Jack Blues. :)

FIRST PLACE

FIRST PLACE is the 3rd single and was released on 13th August.  It's a reflective song about Justin's current life and situation

This one has a music video as well (also shot in black and white).

ALL I CAN TAKE

This is one of my fave songs from the album. It's the opening track and is another reflective song, where Justin sings about dealing with his sensitivity and feeling misunderstood

WALKING AWAY

I also like WALKING AWAY. It's a laid back song which addresses issues he's experienced in his marriage. But he promises that he "ain't walking away".

SWAG (with Cash Cobain and Eddie Benjamin)

For the title track, Justin teamed up with American rapper and record producer Cash Cobain and Australian singer-songwriter Eddie Benjamin

SWAG is more of an outright R'n'B/hip hop song. It reminds me of older Justin songs like No Sense featuring Travis Scott and Honest featuring Don Toliver. My favourite part is the chorus.

TOO LONG

Finally, here is TOO LONG, my fave track on SWAG. It's a chilled, sexy R'n'B song about desire and wanting to reconnect with your partner after a long time.

Update: This month Justin brought out a second surprise album called SWAG II! It came out on 5th September and is said to be more of a pop album. It consists of 23 tracks and also comes in a 2-disc version, containing all the tracks from the first SWAG.

New Unexpected

We're finally getting the new season of the reality TV series Unexpected in the UK! Season 3 was shown in the US last summer , and I wondered when we'd get it here. I don't have any online streaming services so thought I'd just watch clips on YouTube, lol. However it's now starting here in early March. Similar to the popular MTV franchise Teen Mom , Unexpected focuses on teen parents. The first series featured 3 couples expecting babies- Lily Bennett and her boyfriend James Kennedy who have daughter Aaliyah, now 2;  Mckayla Adkins and partner Caelan Morrison who have son Timothy, also known as Timmy (and now daughter Gracelynn , born in January 2019), and  Lexus Scheller and boyfriend Shayden Massey who have daughter Scarlett. Season 2 saw the departure of Lilly and the addition of 3 new pregnant girls and their partners- Laura Barron and her boyfriend (now husband) Tylor Stawmyor who have son Lucas (and have since had another baby , a 2nd son, who is named Leo), ...

South Indian Videos

I've written several Bollywood posts this year but I don't feature South Indian music/films as much. So today I'm sharing some music and dance videos from Tollywood ( the Telugu language film industry) and Kollywood (the Tamil language film industry). :) Oo Antava Mawa- Pushpa- Dance Cover by Sonali First up is a dance cover of the song Oo Antava Mawa..Oo Oo Antava from the 2021 Tollywood film Pushpa: The Rise- Part 1 . I previously featured a dance cover of Oo Antava Mawa in a Dance Videos post in August last year. That one is by Rang De and you can see it here: https://starsparklex.blogspot.com/2023/08/dance-videos.html This cover is by Indian choreographer Sonali Bhaduria, from LiveToDance with Sonali and was uploaded in January 2022. It's a shorter video.   For more on Pushpa and to watch the official Oo Antava Mawa video, check out my Tollywood Videos Round-up 2 post from September 2023: https://starsparklex.blogspot.com/2023/09/tollywood-videos-round-up-2.html ...

25th Anniversary of Mariah Carey's Butterfly Album

My favourite singer Mariah Carey recently released a 25th anniversary edition of her 6th studio album Butterfly. The original album was released on 16th September 1997 and featured songs such as her hit single Honey, The Roof and My All. It was actually the first album I ever bought (on cassette tape, lol) and I still consider it one of my fave MC albums. :) Butterfly was the first album that Mariah had more control over and it is R'n'B, rather than the pop (and later pop/R'n'B) of her previous releases. It also has pop and hip hop influences. The expanded edition contain 8 extra tracks (the original standard edition has 12)- a duet version of Whenever You Call with Brian McKnight , a new take on The Roof featuring Brandy , live versions of Butterfly and My All, acapella versions of Fourth of July and Outside, an Amorphous Anniversary Club Mix of Butterfly (with DJ Amorphous ) and a remix of Honey (Another Taste of Honey David Morales Mix). I had previously heard the D...
