Chilled R'n'B Songs

Back in 2020 when we were all going through stressful times, I wrote a post called Chillout Music, featuring music that helps me relax. And in 2021 I did a follow-up post called More Chillout Songs. You can see them at the links below:

Since the world continues to be quite stressful in various aspects, I thought that today I'd share some more songs with chilled vibes, mainly  in the R'n'B genre specifically. They're also a good fit for this time of year, as we get towards the end of summer. (If it's late winter where you are, I hope you also enjoy them!) :)


Pia Mia- Songs from My Side

Alina Baraz- Songs from Sunbeam

Sinead Harnett- Let Go

Janine- If I Call 

New Zealand singer Janine's most recent single is If I Call. It's a chilled song with melancholy vibes. It was a Weekly Music Video in March:

Denise Julia- Butterflies + bum 2 me 

These two songs by Filipina singer Denise Julia really fit the theme.

Gen Neo- Called it Love

Julia Wu- Chill 

Australian born Chinese singer Julia Wu released a song called Chill in June 2020. I came across it again recently and it inspired this post. :)

Chill is an English language song about relaxing with a special someone and maybe watching YouTube! This is the official lyric video. 



D Smoke feat. SiR- Work Hard Play Hard 

And here is Work Hard Play Hard by American rapper and songwriter D Smoke. His real name is Daniel Anthony Farris and he released his debut studio album Producer of the Year in May 2006. He comes from a musical family and one of his brothers is the singer SiR.

D Smoke started out with a very different career, teaching Spanish and music theory at Inglewood High School in California, before committing to music full time. He rose to fame after becoming the first ever winner of Netflix music reality show Rhythm + Flow in 2019.  

In addition to Producer of the Year, he has released 2 more studio albums- Black Habits (2020) and War & Wonders (2021). He also brought out his debut EP Inglewood High in October 2019.

Work Hard Play Hard is a laidback hip hop/rap song, which features D Smoke's younger brother SiR (returning the favour after D Smoke appeared on his 2015 track You Ain't Ready). 

D Smoke raps in Spanish as well as English, which he's skilled in due to his days as a Spanish teacher! It sounds like this song samples an older track but I'm not sure. The background music gives it a great vibe anyway!

25th Anniversary of Mariah Carey's Butterfly Album

My favourite singer Mariah Carey recently released a 25th anniversary edition of her 6th studio album Butterfly. The original album was released on 16th September 1997 and featured songs such as her hit single Honey, The Roof and My All. It was actually the first album I ever bought (on cassette tape, lol) and I still consider it one of my fave MC albums. :) Butterfly was the first album that Mariah had more control over and it is R'n'B, rather than the pop (and later pop/R'n'B) of her previous releases. New J.Lo and JoJo Music

Two singers I like, Jennifer Lopez and JoJo have new music out, so today I'm sharing it on the blog! Jennifer Lopez- Baila Conmigo First up is Jennifer Lopez, whose new song is the Spanish language Baila Conmigo (Dance with Me). It's a cover of the 2018 single by Dayvi featuring Kelly Ruiz . Debut XG Mini Album

Japanese girl group XG have released their 1st mini album. It's called NEW DNA and was released on 27th September. XG (whose name is short for Xtraordinary Girls) made their debut in March last year and have brought out 7 singles so far- Tippy Toes, MASCARA, LEFT RIGHT/SHOOTING STAR double single), GVRL GANG , TGIF, NEW DANCE and PUPPET SHOW. The first 3 songs (or 4 including the double single) aren't on the mini album. The concept behind NEW DNA is that of being a "new species" free from conventions and limitations .  Although the group is Japanese, their creation was inspired by Korean music and they are based in South Korea. They have released songs in English so far and have been described as a global group and "X-pop". NEW DNA consists of 6 tracks- HESONO, X-GENE, GVRL GANG, TGIF, NEW DANCE and PUPPET SHOW. It is an R'n'B/pop mini album with influences from other genres, such as K-pop, dance and hip hop. My favourite song is PUPPET SHOW. I al
