Dance/Performance Videos

Today's post is a slight twist on my usual dance videos! As well as sharing dance covers by cover dance groups (K-pop in Public, J-pop in Public etc.), I'm also featuring performance videos from the artists themselves. :) 

 

XG- HESONOO & X-GENE (Performance Video)

First up is a performance video for the songs HESONOO and X-GENE by Japanese girl group XG. They are the first two tracks from the girls' debut mini album NEW DNA which was released last September. I mentioned in my review post of the mini album that I liked X-GENE but it was unlikely to be a single, since it's only 1.25 minutes long. So it's nice to see it showcased here. :)

The video is nearly 2 and a half minutes long and starts with XG dancing to HESONOO (which is only 53 seconds), before going into X-GENE. It was uploaded in November. 

 


 

[DANCE COVER IN PUBLIC | SAN FRANCISCO] XG "PUPPET SHOW" Dance Cover- GROOBEU (GROO브)

And now for an XG dance cover! This is a cover of PUPPET SHOW, which was the 4th single from NEW DNA (and my favourite song on there), released on the same day as the EP.  As I've said before, XG are considered a "global girl group, so their dance covers are often listed as "Dance in Public". 

The cover is performed by GROOBEU (GROO브), a California Bay Area based cover dance group. They were formed by by In The Groove dance studios. The group name is made up of the English word "groove" and its Korean spelling.  GROO브 is the Romanised spelling of GROOBEU and the name represents their background with the dance studio, as well as their appreciation of K-pop and Korea. 

The video premiered in December and the dancers (listed as Puppets!) are Michelle Chen, Noelle Bustria, Robin Lee, Gabby Lau, Veronica Chung, Sharon Wang and Casey Wong. I really like the general aesthetic and atmosphere of the video, the sunlight in the background (looks to be around sunset?) and colouring. It goes well with the all-white outfits :)

[DANCE IN PUBLIC LA] XG- 'PUPPET SHOW' | Dance Cover by PLAYGROUND

Next is another PUPPET SHOW cover, this time by PLAYGROUND. They are also a Californian dance group, but from Los Angeles,. They describe their group as "a space where friends come together to have fun and share their love for dance". 

This cover was the group's first of 2024 and was uploaded on 14th January. The dancers are Annie Joo as Harvey, Kris Espinosa as Hinata, Michelle Liu as Juria, Brittany Burke as Maya, Shashia Rangel as Cocona, Mariela Luque as Jurin and Ariel Wang as Chisa. They're also wearing white outfits in this one, since in the official music video, the XG girls wear white in a later scene.

I like the style of this video too. The group describe it as "heavencore aesthetic"!

NCT WISH- 'NASA' Performance Video

Now for some new J-pop. NCT WISH, the 6th and newest sub-unit from Korean boy band NCT (and their first Japanese unit), recently uploaded a performance video for the song NASA. They released their pre-debut single Hands Up last October, under the working title NCT NEW TEAM . It's now been confirmed that their official group name is NCT WISH and they are set to officially debut on 28th February with the single Wish. 

NASA is a high energy, pop/dance song with Japanese, Korean and English lyrics. I'm not sure if it will be an actual single. The performance video was uploaded on 28th January.

There aren't  currently any NCT WISH NASA dance covers but I'll look out for them. :)


TWICE- "ONE SPARK" Performance Video

Finally, here is some K-pop. Korean girl group TWICE have just uploaded a performance video for their brand new single ONE SPARK. It's from their 13th mini album (Korean) With YOU-th, which was released yesterday (23rd February). The pre-release single I Got You (an English language song) came out on 2nd February.

ONE SPARK is the 1st/lead single from the EP and was released on the same day as With YOU-th. It has Korean and English lyrics. The performance video premiered today.

New J.Lo and JoJo Music

Two singers I like, Jennifer Lopez and JoJo have new music out, so today I'm sharing it on the blog! Jennifer Lopez- Baila Conmigo First up is Jennifer Lopez, whose new song is the Spanish language Baila Conmigo (Dance with Me). It's a cover of the 2018 single by Dayvi featuring Kelly Ruiz . Debut XG Mini Album

Japanese girl group XG have released their 1st mini album. It's called NEW DNA and was released on 27th September. XG (whose name is short for Xtraordinary Girls) made their debut in March last year and have brought out 7 singles so far- Tippy Toes, MASCARA, LEFT RIGHT/SHOOTING STAR double single), GVRL GANG , TGIF, NEW DANCE and PUPPET SHOW. The first 3 songs (or 4 including the double single) aren't on the mini album. The concept behind NEW DNA is that of being a "new species" free from conventions and limitations .  Although the group is Japanese, their creation was inspired by Korean music and they are based in South Korea. They have released songs in English so far and have been described as a global group and "X-pop". NEW DNA consists of 6 tracks- HESONO, X-GENE, GVRL GANG, TGIF, NEW DANCE and PUPPET SHOW. It is an R'n'B/pop mini album with influences from other genres, such as K-pop, dance and hip hop. My favourite song is PUPPET SHOW. I al
