Weekly Music Video

Today's video is Bang by American singer Nicole Scherzinger. She is most famous for being the lead singer of vocal/dance group The Pussycat Dolls but is now a solo artist and X-Factor UK judge.

Nicole started her career as part of girl group Eden's Crush in 2001. They were formed on the American version of the reality show Popstars. I remember Nicole appeared with Eden's Crush in an episode of Sabrina, The Teenage Witch! Eden's Crush split-up in late 2001/early 2002 and she went on to join the Pussycat Dolls (PCD) in 2003.

In  September 2006 Nicole featured on rapper and producer Diddy/P.Diddy's single Come To Me and the following July she released her debut single Whatever U Like featuring rapper T.I. She brought out 3 more singles that year including Baby Love featuring rapper, producer and Black Eyed Pea will.iam (which later appeared on a bonus CD as part of PCD's 2nd album Doll Domination) and Supervillan. She planned to release her debut album Her Name is Nicole in 2007, but the singles didn't do too well and the album was cancelled.

Nicole left the Pussycat Dolls in late 2010. A month later she released the single Poison, the first single from her debut album Killer Love which came out in March 2011. Poison did well in the UK and Ireland, reaching No 3 in the UK Singles Chart and 7 in the Irish charts. Killer Love was a bestseller in the UK. It was also released in Australia, New Zealand, Ireland and other European countries including Switzerland, France and Germany but I don't think it ever got a proper American release, although Nicole did record some new songs for an American version.

Other singles from the album were Don't Hold Your Breath (a UK No 1) and Wet. She also re-released Killer Love (an international version) with some extra songs and the singles from that release are Right There featuring rapper 50 Cent and Try With Me. (Right There is on the original album but it doesn't feature 50 Cent).

In May 2014  Nicole released Your Love, the first single from her second album Big Fat Lie which came out in October that year. Other singles from the album are Run, On The Rocks and Bang, although I'm unsure if Bang was released in the UK because I wasn't aware it was a single until today. She has collaborated with several other artists on singles, including American rapper/producer Timbaland and singer Keri Hilson with Come To Me and Spanish singer Enrique Iglesias with Heartbeat.

In addition to singing Nicole has been involved in film and TV. In 2010 she appeared as a guest judge on the 7th series of the British The X-Factor and was popular with viewers. She returned in 2012 and 2013 and is currently a judge on the latest series. Her films include Chasing Papi (2003), Men In Black 3 (2012) and the new Disney animation Moana which is set for release at the end of the year.

Bang is from Big Fat Lie. I have both Nicole's albums and prefer BFL to Killer Love; it has more good songs on it in my opinion. I only recently found out that there's a music video for Bang and as I mentioned before, I'm not sure if was actually released as a single over here.  It's my favourite song on the album. :)

25th Anniversary of Mariah Carey's Butterfly Album

My favourite singer Mariah Carey recently released a 25th anniversary edition of her 6th studio album Butterfly. The original album was released on 16th September 1997 and featured songs such as her hit single Honey, The Roof and My All. It was actually the first album I ever bought (on cassette tape, lol) and I still consider it one of my fave MC albums. :) Butterfly was the first album that Mariah had more control over and it is R'n'B, rather than the pop (and later pop/R'n'B) of her previous releases. It also has pop and hip hop influences.  The expanded edition contain 8 extra tracks (the original standard edition has 12)- a duet version of Whenever You Call with Brian McKnight , a new take on The Roof featuring Brandy , live versions of Butterfly and My All, acapella versions of Fourth of July and Outside, an Amorphous Anniversary Club Mix of Butterfly (with DJ Amorphous ) and a remix of Honey (Another Taste of Honey David Morales Mix). I had previously heard the

Debut XG Mini Album

Japanese girl group XG have released their 1st mini album. It's called NEW DNA and was released on 27th September. XG (whose name is short for Xtraordinary Girls) made their debut in March last year and have brought out 7 singles so far- Tippy Toes, MASCARA, LEFT RIGHT/SHOOTING STAR double single), GVRL GANG , TGIF, NEW DANCE and PUPPET SHOW. The first 3 songs (or 4 including the double single) aren't on the mini album. The concept behind NEW DNA is that of being a "new species" free from conventions and limitations .  Although the group is Japanese, their creation was inspired by Korean music and they are based in South Korea. They have released songs in English so far and have been described as a global group and "X-pop". NEW DNA consists of 6 tracks- HESONO, X-GENE, GVRL GANG, TGIF, NEW DANCE and PUPPET SHOW. It is an R'n'B/pop mini album with influences from other genres, such as K-pop, dance and hip hop. My favourite song is PUPPET SHOW. I al
