Albanian Music

I've been listening to some Albanian music lately, so thought I'd do a post on it. :) While I like some Eastern European artits such as Elena Risteska (Macedonian) and Zulya (Tatar/Russian) and I'd hadn't heard much Albanian music before. Here are 4 Albanian/Kosovan artists I've been listening to.

Era Istrefi

Era Istrefi (also known as ERA) is a Kosovar (Kosovan Albanian) singer from Pristina in Kosovo. Her mother Suzana Tahirsylaj was a famous singer in the 80s and 90s and her older sister Nora (see below) is also a singer and started her career in the mid 2000s. Era herself debuted on the music scene in 2013 with the single Mani për money (which according to Wikipedia translates as "Money mania". Her other singles include A po don? (Do you want to?), Njo si ti (Someone like you) and Shumë pis (Very Naughty) featuring rapper Ledri Vula.

She is most well known for her single Bonbon which was released at the end of last year. In February she signed to the American record labels Sony and Ultra Music (which is now part of Sony). Future material will also be released in collaboration with RCA Records.

Era sings in Gheg Albanian and English. People have called her a mix between Sia and Rihanna but she also makes me think of the Guamanian singer Pia Mia.

This is Bonbon. Although it was released last December they've also recently started showing it on the British music channels. According to YouTube commenters it's about drugs! It's mostly in Gheg with a few English lines.

There's also an English version of Bonbon which you can listen to here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vxc1ufJxPGM

Nora Istrefi

Nora is Era's older sister. She released her debut album Engjëll (Angel) in 2005 and has released 3 more since, Opium (2006), Another World (2008) and Nora (2009). Her singles include Big Love featuring Vig Poppa, S'ki me ik (You're not leaving), Sje my lifestyle and her latest Majem.

Here is Majem which came out in August. Although it's mostly is Albanian there are a couple of English lines which are explicit!

Mozzik

Mozzik is a Kosovan singer/songwriter and rapper. I can't find much about him online but there is some information on his Facebook page. It's in Albanian so I used Google Translate to translate it!

I think his real name is Ali Gramoz and Mozzik is his stage name. He's from Ferizaj in Kosovo and is signed to OnRecords. He won Best Duet in the Noise Video Music Awards. Mozzik's brother is Ali Getuar "Ghetto" or "Getinjo".

This is his latest single Cocaina.

Young Zerka

Young Zerka is a reggae artist and songwriter. He's from Korce in Albania and his music is also R'n'B and hip hop. His singles include Boom Boom, Like Rihanna, Habibi (with DJ Flow), Love and Syn i jemi with Albanian singer Ronela Hajati.

Here is Syn i jemi.

J Soul Brothers (Japanese boyband)

I don't know that many Japanese boybands. It's funny but I mostly know Korean groups and Japanese solo singers! I know KAT-TUN, Arashi (although they're more of a rock group, I think) and Hey! Say! JUMP but not many more. A friend recently introduced to me the band (or vocal and dance unit) J Soul Brothers, so I thought today I'd do a post about them. And of course it fits into the J-pop and K-pop theme I'm doing this month! This is a good opportunity to find more J-pop boybands too. :)

The J Soul Brothers were originally formed in 1998 but have gone through two line-up changes. The current incarnation- full title Sandaime (Third Generation) J Soul Brothers from EXILE TRIBE* or J Soul Brothers III- was formed in 2010 by HIRO who is the leader of Japanese boyband EXILE (which has an impressive 19 members!) and founding member of the First Generation J Soul Brothers.  It was decided that EXILE and former Nidaimie (Second Generation) J Soul Brothers members NAOTO and …

Dance Moms- Chloe Update

Series/Season 7 of American reality show Dance Moms is currently showing in the UK and I recently heard that one of the original dancers Chloe Lukasiak will be returning for the finale.

Chloe and her mum Christi weren't liked by the dance teacher and studio owner Abby Lee Miller and Christi often clashed with Abby. They left at the end of Series 4. Abby treated Chloe horribly in my opinion, once referring to her as "that girl over there" instead of her name. I always disliked the way Abby punishes the girls if she falls out with their mothers. Also Abby seemed to want to Chloe to fail in competitions, which was weird because she was one of her students representing her!! I think she just wants to be proven right a lot of the time. Chloe was my favourite out of the original girls (Chloe, Maddie, Nia, Mackenzie, Brooke  ans Paige, although Kendall joined quite early on) and I was glad for her when she finally left because she didn't have to put up with being treated li…

Christmas Round-up

In October I did a Hallowe'en round-up post. Since today is Christmas Eve I thought it would be cool to do a Christmas round-up. :)

Books

The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe by C.S. Lewis (Narnia)

This is the 2nd book in the fantasy children's series The Chronicles of Narnia. Originally published in 1950, it's become a kid's classic. The series is about the magical land of Narnia which is actually meant to be Heaven. It's ruled over by the great lion Aslan (who is like Jesus). But if you're not religious (like me) it's still an entertaining story.

The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe is about siblings Peter, Susan, Edmund and Lucy Pevensie who are evacuated from London to the country during the Blitz. They go to stay with Professor Kirke who lives alone apart from his housekeeper Mrs. Macready. While looking round the house the youngest girl Lucy discovers an entrance to Narnia in the back of a wardrobe. She comes out in a snowy…
