Weekly Music Video

Today's video is Stuck On You by British singer Joss Stone. She first became famous aged 16 with the release of her debut album The Soul Sessions in September 2003 and and its first single Fell in Love with a Boy, a cover of The White Stripes' song (theirs is called Fell in Love with a Girl), which came out in early 2004.

The Soul Sessions was very successful and Joss' second album Mind Body Soul (released in September 2004) was also a best seller. The lead single You Had Me which came out the same month, is one of her most successful songs. To date she has released 7 albums, the rest are Introducing Joss Stone (2007), Colour Me Free! (2009), LP1 (2011), The Soul Sessions Vol 2 (2012) and her most recent Water For Your Soul which was released in summer 2015. Some of her other singles are Right to Be Wrong, Don't Cha Wanna Ride, Tell Me What We're Gonna Do Now featuring American rapper Common, Teardrops which is a cover of the Womack & Womack song (I like the 1998 Lovestation version the best), Stuck on You and The Answer. She also has a greatest hits album and 3 live/session EPs.

Joss was part of the "supergroup" SuperHeavy, with Rolling Stones frontman Mick Jagger, Indian composer and musician A.R. RahmanEurythmics and solo singer Dave Stewart and Jamaican rapper/singer Damian Marley (son of Bob Marley).

She also acts, playing witch/fortune teller Angela in the 2006 film Eragon in 2006 and Anne of Cleeves, the fourth wife of English king Henry VIII in TV series The Tudors. In addition she's appeared on several TV shows.

In recent years Joss hasn't received much mainstream promotion. She was originally signed to the record label EMI but fought legally to leave them and the release of her 4th album Colour Me Free! was delayed. She set up her own label called Stone'd Records in 2011. I only discovered Colour Me Free! on Spotify and have come across her later albums there too.

Stuck On You is from Water For Your Soul. I wasn't even aware that it was a single and there was a video until the other day when I came across it on YouTube. I got the album last Christmas and have been listening to it again lately. Joss started out with soul and R'n'B music but WFYS is more reggae heavy. Some are more soul/chilled though, like Stuck On You. It's one of my favourite songs and the video is nice as well. :)

J Soul Brothers (Japanese boyband)

I don't know that many Japanese boybands. It's funny but I mostly know Korean groups and Japanese solo singers! I know KAT-TUN, Arashi (although they're more of a rock group, I think) and Hey! Say! JUMP but not many more. A friend recently introduced to me the band (or vocal and dance unit) J Soul Brothers, so I thought today I'd do a post about them. And of course it fits into the J-pop and K-pop theme I'm doing this month! This is a good opportunity to find more J-pop boybands too. :)

The J Soul Brothers were originally formed in 1998 but have gone through two line-up changes. The current incarnation- full title Sandaime (Third Generation) J Soul Brothers from EXILE TRIBE* or J Soul Brothers III- was formed in 2010 by HIRO who is the leader of Japanese boyband EXILE (which has an impressive 19 members!) and founding member of the First Generation J Soul Brothers.  It was decided that EXILE and former Nidaimie (Second Generation) J Soul Brothers members NAOTO and …

Dance Moms- Chloe Update

Series/Season 7 of American reality show Dance Moms is currently showing in the UK and I recently heard that one of the original dancers Chloe Lukasiak will be returning for the finale.

Chloe and her mum Christi weren't liked by the dance teacher and studio owner Abby Lee Miller and Christi often clashed with Abby. They left at the end of Series 4. Abby treated Chloe horribly in my opinion, once referring to her as "that girl over there" instead of her name. I always disliked the way Abby punishes the girls if she falls out with their mothers. Also Abby seemed to want to Chloe to fail in competitions, which was weird because she was one of her students representing her!! I think she just wants to be proven right a lot of the time. Chloe was my favourite out of the original girls (Chloe, Maddie, Nia, Mackenzie, Brooke  ans Paige, although Kendall joined quite early on) and I was glad for her when she finally left because she didn't have to put up with being treated li…

Christmas Round-up

In October I did a Hallowe'en round-up post. Since today is Christmas Eve I thought it would be cool to do a Christmas round-up. :)

Books

The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe by C.S. Lewis (Narnia)

This is the 2nd book in the fantasy children's series The Chronicles of Narnia. Originally published in 1950, it's become a kid's classic. The series is about the magical land of Narnia which is actually meant to be Heaven. It's ruled over by the great lion Aslan (who is like Jesus). But if you're not religious (like me) it's still an entertaining story.

The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe is about siblings Peter, Susan, Edmund and Lucy Pevensie who are evacuated from London to the country during the Blitz. They go to stay with Professor Kirke who lives alone apart from his housekeeper Mrs. Macready. While looking round the house the youngest girl Lucy discovers an entrance to Narnia in the back of a wardrobe. She comes out in a snowy…
