JoJo Through the Years

American singer JoJo is set to release her 3rd studio album Mad Love in October. It will be her first full length album in 10 years! The last was The High Road which came out in 2006. She had record label issues which delayed the release of another album, although she has brought out mixtapes since then. In early 2014 she signed to Atlantic Records, her current label.

The other day I saw a programme on one of the music channels which featured some of JoJo's videos and thought I'd do a post about her music through the years and include my favourites. :)

Leave (Get Out)

This was the first single from debut album JoJo, released in February 2004 when she was only 13. It's her most successful single to date, reaching No 1 on the US Pop Chart and the Top 5 in other countries, including the UK, Australia, New Zealand, Ireland and Germany.

JoJo is my favourite album (although I really like The High Road as well) and has a lot of good songs on it. :)

Baby It's You feat. Bow Wow

This was the 2nd single from the JoJo album and it features American rapper Bow Wow. It's another bestseller and was No 8 in the UK when it was released in September 2004. There's also a version without the rap, both appear on the album.

Not That Kinda Girl

Not That Kinda Girl was the 3rd single from JoJo. It wasn't commercially released in USA but it was released here in the UK, as well as in other European countries and Australia in 2005.

Update 12/10/19: The video has been removed due to copyright issues, but you can listen to the 2018 version of Not That Kinda Girl here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x3460Nw3YlY

Too Little Too Late

The first single off her 2nd album The High Road, this came out in the US in August 2006 and here in January 2007. This is one of the most shown JoJo videos on the music channels! The song is one of her most successful UK singles, along with Leave (Get Out).

In The Dark

In The Dark was a promotional single from JoJo's first mixtape, Can't Take That Away From Me which was released in 2010. Although her music's always been R'n'B some of her older stuff was more poppy but this song is more R'n'B heavy. It's also a more grown-up video than her previous ones. The song is about "friends with benefits". She was 19 here, so had obviously changed her style and matured quite a bit by then!

Disaster

Disaster was meant to be the first single from 3rd album Jumping Trains but the album never got released. I remember waiting for it to come out! The single was released in September 2011.

Caught Up In The Rapture

My favourite song from her 3rd mixtape #LoveJo (2014). The mixtape was released on Valentine's Day 2014 as a gift to fans.

When Love Hurts

When Love Hurts is one of the singles from III (Tringle), JoJo's 2015 EP. My favourite song on there is Save my Soul but since I've previously posted that, I thought I'd share a different video. :) You can watch the Save My Soul Video (and a bonus video) here: http://starsparklex.blogspot.co.uk/2016/01/weekly-music-video_13.html

The video for WLH was uploaded to YouTube last September.

F**k Apologies feat. Wiz Khalifa

Finally here is her latest single which features American rapper Wiz Khalifa. It came out in July and will be on the new album.

As you can tell by the title, the song is explicit. :)

Hope you enjoyed the list! :) What are your favourite JoJo songs?

25th Anniversary of Mariah Carey's Butterfly Album

My favourite singer Mariah Carey recently released a 25th anniversary edition of her 6th studio album Butterfly. The original album was released on 16th September 1997 and featured songs such as her hit single Honey, The Roof and My All. It was actually the first album I ever bought (on cassette tape, lol) and I still consider it one of my fave MC albums. :) Butterfly was the first album that Mariah had more control over and it is R'n'B, rather than the pop (and later pop/R'n'B) of her previous releases. It also has pop and hip hop influences.  The expanded edition contain 8 extra tracks (the original standard edition has 12)- a duet version of Whenever You Call with Brian McKnight , a new take on The Roof featuring Brandy , live versions of Butterfly and My All, acapella versions of Fourth of July and Outside, an Amorphous Anniversary Club Mix of Butterfly (with DJ Amorphous ) and a remix of Honey (Another Taste of Honey David Morales Mix). I had previously heard the

Debut XG Mini Album

Japanese girl group XG have released their 1st mini album. It's called NEW DNA and was released on 27th September. XG (whose name is short for Xtraordinary Girls) made their debut in March last year and have brought out 7 singles so far- Tippy Toes, MASCARA, LEFT RIGHT/SHOOTING STAR double single), GVRL GANG , TGIF, NEW DANCE and PUPPET SHOW. The first 3 songs (or 4 including the double single) aren't on the mini album. The concept behind NEW DNA is that of being a "new species" free from conventions and limitations .  Although the group is Japanese, their creation was inspired by Korean music and they are based in South Korea. They have released songs in English so far and have been described as a global group and "X-pop". NEW DNA consists of 6 tracks- HESONO, X-GENE, GVRL GANG, TGIF, NEW DANCE and PUPPET SHOW. It is an R'n'B/pop mini album with influences from other genres, such as K-pop, dance and hip hop. My favourite song is PUPPET SHOW. I al
